Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a dedicated Lifeguard to supervise pool areas, enforce safety rules, and respond quickly to emergencies.

This role supports youth development and healthy living by creating a safe, welcoming environment and working closely with the Aquatics Director.

You will perform pool maintenance, tests, and attend trainings; the position requires certification and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Flexible hours include days, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 years.
• Minimum of one year lifeguard experience.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire, or first available class.
• HSI certifications for BLS/First Aid/Emergency Oxygen required before first shift.
• Lifeguard Supervisor certification required before first shift.

Responsibilities

• Know and understand emergency procedures and respond to emergencies.
• Enforce safety rules and testing procedures for pools and aquatics areas.
• Maintain pool areas for safety and cleanliness; vacuuming, cleaning, trash pickup.
• Perform pool chemical testing and maintain records as required.
• Perform daily equipment checks and ensure availability of equipment.
• Monitor hazards and prevent accidents; maintain certifications.
