Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Lifeguard Leader to supervise pool areas, promote member safety, and support aquatics programs in Houston, TX. This role requires strong safety discipline, teamwork, and the ability to manage lifeguards on duty.

Key duties include enforcing rules, maintaining pool cleanliness and records, conducting drills, and coordinating with the Aquatics Director. Flexibility with hours and outdoor work are important for this position.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 18 years.
• Minimum of one year of Lifeguard experience.
• Demonstrate Lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA policies.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current/or must obtain: BLS/First Aid/Emergency Oxygen (HSI) before first shift.
• Lifeguard Supervisor certification prior to first shift.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people and pass swim assessment.

Responsibilities

• Know emergency procedures and respond immediately per YMCA standards.
• Enforce safety rules and swim testing procedures.
• Maintain pool and area cleanliness and perform vacuuming and trash pickup.
• Record and test pool chemicals; maintain reports as required.
• Perform daily equipment checks and ensure available equipment.
• Monitor pool hazards and intervene to prevent accidents.
• Lead and mentor lifeguards on duty and assist Aquatics Director with audits and drills.
