Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Lifeguard to uphold safe swimming conditions across pools and surrounding areas. You will enforce safety rules, perform routine pool maintenance, test chemicals, and ensure equipment readiness while engaging with members in a safety-forward environment.

Candidates must meet YMCA lifeguard certifications and complete required trainings; interview includes a swim assessment and skills evaluation.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or obtain YMCA Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safe swimming conditions in pools, decks, and surrounding areas.
• Enforce safety rules, swim testing procedures, and pool policies.
• Perform pool maintenance and cleaning to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Test pool chemicals and maintain records per YMCA/state requirements.
• Conduct daily equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary gear.
• Monitor for pool hazards and intervene to prevent accidents.
• Maintain required certifications and attend trainings.
• Rescue readiness with rapid response and clear communication with members.
