YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Lifeguard to maintain safe swimming conditions and nurture a positive, engaging environment focused on member safety and healthy living. The role emphasizes enforcing pool rules, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring compliance with YMCA policies and health codes.

Candidates must hold current lifeguard certifications or obtain them within 30 days of hire, pass the swim assessment, and participate in required trainings.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or obtain YMCA Lifeguard Certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current/or must obtain prior to first scheduled shift: ASHI certifications for: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen (Administration), Child Abuse Prevention Training, Information Security and Awareness, Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Universal Precautions, and New Staff Orientation Assessment.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

• Know, understand, and enforce pool safety rules and testing procedures.
• Performs maintenance of the pool(s) and pool area(s) to ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Tests and records pool chemicals per YMCA standards and health codes.
• Performs daily equipment checks and ensures equipment availability.
• Monitors pool hazards and prevents accidents.
• Maintains all required certifications per YMCA standards.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; minimum four hours in-service per month.
• Maintains vigilant pool surveillance and responds quickly to emergencies.
• Maintains positive relationships with members and staff; communicates rules firmly and tactfully.
• Reports suspicious behavior and policy violations.
• Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
• Meets timelines for time sheets and compliance reviews.
