Job summary

YMCA Columbus is seeking an experienced Aquatics Experience Leader to oversee daily operations, support and develop staff, and ensure safe, high-quality aquatic programs for members and participants.

The role emphasizes team leadership, budget collaboration, and compliance with health and safety standards, with comprehensive training and certification support provided for candidates with proven leadership experience in aquatics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (preferred) in recreation, aquatics, social sciences, or a related field; two years experience in an aquatics environment; or equivalent education/experience.
• Passionate belief in the Y's cause of nurturing youth, healthy living, and serving neighbors.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups of people from all social/economic backgrounds.
• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
• Proven track record of building authentic relationships and teamwork.
• Team Leader certification preferred; if not certified, must obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises program activities to meet community needs and YMCA objectives; develops new activities and expands programs.
• Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, and directs staff; evaluates performance; motivates staff and maintains certifications.
• Monitor and maintain daily pool operations and chemical levels per health/safety regulations.
• Conduct ARC lifesaving and first aid training; lead inservices per association policies and standards.
• Secure and schedule pool facilities; maintain accurate pool chemical records.
• Assist in Aquatics budget development and management; manage inventory and purchases.
• Collaborate with Executive Director on branch events, philanthropy, meetings, and staff training.
• Demonstrate active listening to align member interests with programs and experiences.
• Respond to member/community inquiries and complaints promptly; ensure safe, healthy environment.

Education

Bachelor's degree (preferred) in recreation, aquatics, social sciences, or related field
