SimVentions, consistently voted one of Virginia's Best Places to Work, seeks an Applied Mathematician or Applied Physicist for our NSWC Dahlgren-based SLBM team in Dahlgren, VA. The role emphasizes developing test plans, executing manual and automated testing across levels, and collaborating with government customers to resolve defects.

Ideal candidates have a BS in applied math/physics, some coding experience, and 1+ years in software testing, with proficiency in test automation and Linux. U.S.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional applied mathematics or applied physics experience in support of engineering projects.
  • 1+ years of software/systems testing experience or equivalent education; can be concurrent with applied math or applied physics experience.
  • Familiarity reviewing C++ code.
  • Experience using Linux systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to find, document, and help resolve complex software issues.
  • Experience linking requirements to test cases and managing test artifacts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to customers.
  • Strong teamwork and the ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks.
  • Write detailed test plans, test descriptions, and test cases tied directly to requirements.
  • Execute manual and automated testing (static, dynamic, integration, and system-level).
  • Perform requirements traceability using DOORS, Jira, and other tools.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects; collaborate closely with developers for rapid resolution.
  • Review peers’ test documentation and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate in Agile Sprint meetings and Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities.
  • Interface directly and professionally with government customers daily.
  • Occasionally present technical testing documentation.
