Job summary

SimVentions seeks an Applied Mathematician or Applied Physicist for the SLBM team on-site at NSWC Dahlgren, VA. You will design test plans, develop automated scripts, and work with developers and government customers to resolve defects.

Requirements include 2+ years in applied math/physics, 1+ year in software testing, Linux proficiency, and C++ familiarity. US citizenship and ability to work on-site 5 days/week are required.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional applied mathematics or applied physics experience.
  • 1+ years of software/systems testing experience or education; can align with math/physics work.
  • Familiarity reviewing C++ code.
  • Experience using Linux systems.
  • Strong ability to document, track, and resolve complex software issues.
  • Linking requirements to test cases and managing test artifacts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to customers.
  • Teamwork and ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks.
  • Write detailed test plans, test descriptions, and test cases tied to requirements.
  • Execute manual and automated testing (static, dynamic, integration, system-level).
  • Perform requirements traceability using DOORS, Jira, and other tools.
  • Identify, document, and track software defects; collaborate with developers for rapid resolution.
  • Review peers’ test documentation and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participate in Agile Sprint meetings and Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities.
  • Interface directly with government customers daily; present testing documentation when needed.
