Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement, ensuring APP clinical work aligns with the scope or Hospital Playbook. Assesses staffing effectiveness, experience, skill mix, and develops responsive staffing systems. Mentors, coaches, and handles administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and OPPE/FPPE. Represents APPs to outside review agencies like the Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

The position is typically 50% administrative and 50% clinical, or as determined by the APP Director or VP of APP Services.

Note: This is a 40-hour position, which may include off-shift hours, weekends, and holidays as required. The role provides leadership within the specialty service(s) with potential expansion based on organizational needs.

Essential Functions
  1. Collaborate with leadership to identify clinical growth and process improvements; participate in meetings and committees.
  2. Evaluate APP workforce needs, approve staffing requests, and work with leadership on recruitment and retention.
  3. Monitor financial metrics like reimbursement, productivity, and utilization.
  4. Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses.
  5. Assist in developing peer review and quality metrics, and in professional evaluation processes.
  6. Manage change within the service line, including education and billing processes.
  7. Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed, incorporating feedback from interdisciplinary teams.
  8. Oversee scheduling and address unexpected staffing changes.
  9. Clinically work 50% in the designated area or as assigned.
Supervision
  • Reports to the APP Director and physician leader; collaborates with physicians during clinical duties.
  • Supervises APPs administratively within the assigned areas.
Candidate Requirements
Physician Assistant:
  • License, certification, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical and 2+ years leadership experience in relevant specialty.
Nurse Practitioner:
  • License, certification, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical and 2+ years leadership experience in relevant specialty.
