Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Ensures APP clinical work aligns with scope of practice and hospital protocols. Assesses staffing effectiveness, mentors APPs, and handles administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and compliance with review standards. Represents APPs to external review agencies like the Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

The position is typically 50% administrative and 50% clinical, with flexibility based on department needs. It is a 40-hour role that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. The role provides leadership within a specialty service, with potential for expansion.

Essential Functions
  1. Collaborate with leadership to identify growth and process improvements.
  2. Evaluate and adjust APP staffing based on clinical needs.
  3. Assist with recruitment, retention, and recognition of APPs.
  4. Monitor financial metrics like reimbursement and productivity.
  5. Oversee continuing education policies and peer review processes.
  6. Develop and manage clinical training and orientation programs.
  7. Conduct performance evaluations and manage disciplinary actions.
  8. Coordinate scheduling and respond to staffing changes.
  9. Maintain clinical practice in designated specialty areas.
Supervision
  • Dual reporting to the APP Director and a physician leader for administrative matters.
  • Supervise APPs within assigned areas.
Candidate Requirements

Physician Assistant: Licensed in Michigan, ARC-PA accredited education, NCCPA certification, Michigan Controlled Substance License, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical, 2+ years leadership.

Nurse Practitioner: Licensed in Michigan, accredited NP program, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical, 2+ years leadership.
