Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Ensures APP clinical work adheres to scope of practice and hospital protocols. Assesses staffing effectiveness, experience, skill mix, and develops responsive staffing systems. Mentors, coaches, and handles administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, OPPE/FPPE, etc. Represents APPs to external review agencies like Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

The position is typically 50% administrative and 50% clinical, as determined by the APP Director or VP of APP Services.

Note: This is a 40-hour position that may include off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. Provides leadership within designated specialties with potential for role expansion based on organizational needs.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with leadership to identify growth opportunities and process improvements. Participate in meetings and committees.
  • Evaluate APP workforce and duties, approve staffing requests.
  • Work with APP Director on recruitment, retention, and recognition efforts.
  • Monitor financial metrics such as reimbursement, productivity, and utilization.
  • Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses.
  • Develop peer review and quality metrics; assist with chart reviews.
  • Collaborate on FPPE development with physician leadership.
  • Manage change within service lines through effective communication. Oversee APP education and training.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Oversee scheduling and coordinate with APP Supervisors.
  • Maintain clinical practice in area of expertise, approximately 50% clinical work.

Supervision

  • Dual reporting to APP Director and physician leader for administrative purposes. Collaborate with physicians during clinical duties.

Supervision Exercised

  • Administrative supervision over APPs in assigned areas.

Candidate Requirements

Physician Assistant:

  • License, certification, DEA registration, BLS, and 5+ years clinical and 2+ years leadership experience in relevant specialty.

Nurse Practitioner:

  • License, certification, DEA registration, BLS, and 5+ years clinical and 2+ years leadership experience in relevant specialty.
