Job Summary

Responsible for managing reporting APPs and APP supervisors, including activities related to patient care, service line development, quality improvement, strategic planning, and policy enforcement. Ensures APP clinical work adheres to scope of practice and hospital protocols. Assesses staffing effectiveness, mentors APPs, and handles administrative duties such as hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and compliance with OPPE/FPPE. Represents APPs in external reviews like Joint Commission and American College of Surgeons.

The position is typically 50% administrative and 50% clinical, based on expertise or as directed by the APP Director or VP of APP Services.

This is a 40-hour position that may include off-shifts, weekends, and holidays. The role provides leadership within designated specialty services with potential for expansion.

Essential Functions
  1. Collaborate on clinical growth and process improvements with leadership.
  2. Evaluate and adjust APP staffing based on clinical needs.
  3. Support APP recruitment, retention, and recognition efforts.
  4. Monitor financial metrics like reimbursement and productivity.
  5. Oversee CE/CME policies and expenses.
  6. Develop peer review and quality metrics; assist with chart reviews.
  7. Develop FPPE in collaboration with physician leadership.
  8. Manage change within the service line, including education and billing training.
  9. Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  10. Oversee scheduling and coordinate with supervisors.
  11. Work clinically 50% of the time in your area of expertise.
Supervision
  • The APP Manager reports to the APP Director and physician leader, collaborating during clinical duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise APPs administratively within assigned areas.
Candidate Requirements
Physician Assistant
  • Michigan license, ARC-PA accredited program, NCCPA certification, Michigan Controlled Substance License, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical, 2+ years leadership.
Nurse Practitioner
  • Michigan licensure, accredited NP program, DEA registration, BLS, 5+ years clinical, 2+ years leadership.
