Caltrans is seeking a Claims Officer in San Bernardino County for a 12 Month Limited Term - Full Time position. The incumbent directs and coordinates the review and processing of damage claims statewide, assists attorneys, and handles tort claim processing up to $12,500 in Small Claims Court.
Hybrid telework is offered. Under supervision, you will evaluate claims, assign workflow, and ensure proper documentation and compliance with state rules.

Under the direction of the Legal Division Claims Manager (Supervisor I), and/or the Office Administrator (Supervisor II), the incumbent is responsible for directing and coordinating the review and processing of statewide damage claims filed with the Department of General Services (DGS). The Claims Officer is responsible for the entire investigation and evaluation of potential and filed public liability claims arising in the District and provide support to attorneys in the Legal Office. The Claims Officer also evaluates and processes tort claims in the amount of $12,500 or less pursuant to Government Code section 937.5 and represents the Department in Small Claims Court. The Claims Officer may monitor the work flow in the unit and make assignments and provide guidance and assistance to other staff in the unit.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Analyst II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
