Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as tutors and mentors in urban schools, supporting students to achieve academic success and improved attendance. The role focuses on coaching, 1:1 and small-group work, and collaboration with classrooms and teachers to create engaging learning environments.

As an entry-level, full-time position, AmeriCorps members receive a bi-weekly living stipend and benefits including health, dental, and vision coverage, plus training and professional development

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (authorization to work in the U.S. required)
• Ages 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• GED or high school diploma; some college experience or college degree
• No more than three terms in AmeriCorps state or national program
• Able to pass a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Plan and monitor individual student progress
• Collaborate with teachers on instruction and in-class support
• Create engaging, safe learning spaces in collaboration with teachers
• Support after-school and in-school programs to boost student engagement
• Contribute to school-wide initiatives and data collection for student progress
