Job summary

General Motors seeks an engineering leader who still ships code, overseeing multiple teams building business-critical platforms, integrations, and modernization programs behind GM sourcing parts and delivering vehicles. You'll own technical direction, delivery, and measurable results, including introducing AI coding agents into planning, testing, and shipping with safety guardrails and real metrics.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent practical experience
• 10+ years of software engineering and people leadership experience including leading multiple teams
• Hands-on coding in Java or C++, plus frontend frameworks like Angular or React
• 1+ year of substantial hands-on use of AI coding agents in production work
• Experience with distributed systems, APIs, event-driven architecture, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
• Experience modernizing legacy systems while supporting business-critical delivery
• Experience establishing and improving engineering standards, lifecycle practices, and delivery discipline
• Ability to lead across ambiguity, influence senior stakeholders, and align technical decisions with business outcomes
• Strong coaching/mentoring and excellent communication skills

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple engineering teams across platforms, APIs, integrations, and legacy systems
• Turn business strategy into roadmaps and KPIs and deliver them
• Partner with product, business, architecture, operations, and delivery leaders to translate needs into scalable solutions
• Make architecture calls and set a high bar for quality, security, and reliability
• Get hands-on through code reviews, debugging, spikes, and proofs of concept
• Drive modernization strategies for legacy apps including decomposition and platform evolution
• Roll out AI coding agents across the SDLC with guardrails for safe shipping
• Build agent tooling and CI/CD for large-scale migrations
• Measure impact with DORA metrics, cycle time, change-failure rate and report to leadership
• Hire and grow engineers and tech leads, creating a culture of accountability and learning
