Job summary

General Motors LLC seeks a Software Engineering Manager who codes, leading a team of 6-12 engineers focused on Vehicle Order Management, Order Scheduling, or Global Logistics.

You'll be the technical anchor, turning strategy into roadmaps, allocating resources, and owning delivery, quality, and growth, while dedicating 30-40% time to hands-on coding and AI-assisted development. This player-coach role emphasizes practical architecture, on-call readiness, and collaboration with product management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, or related field plus 6–9 years relevant experience, or 10–12 years full-time experience.
• At least 2 years of experience managing a software engineering team with hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• At least 3 years designing and architecting systems for reliability and scale.
• Hands-on coding proficiency in Java, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, C#, or Kotlin; coding tests may be used in interview.
• Minimum 1 year daily hands-on use of AI coding assistants or agents in development work.

Responsibilities

• Turn strategy into direction, objectives, and operating plans for the team with KPIs.
• Write, review, and merge production code for critical features and defects.
• Define architecture for services, APIs, data models, and SaaS/ERP integrations.
• Lead incident response, on-call, and postmortems with quality as priority.
