Job summary

General Motors LLC is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to lead deployment, modernization, and ongoing support of software used across GM manufacturing plants in the US.

The role focuses on AI-centric enhancements, data integration, and reliable plant-floor IT infrastructure. You will work hands-on to deploy, configure, and test full-stack environments, deconstruct existing deployments, and drive automation with CI/CD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience integrating applications with industrial PLCs, robots, or other automation equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining shop-floor software on plant IT infrastructure.
• Experience with industrial protocols, PLCs, manufacturing equipment, and data integration.
• Experience designing or applying AI/ML solutions in manufacturing environments.
• Proven experience with generative AI, LLMs, and AI-assisted software development.
• Strong scripting in Python or PowerShell and deployment/test automation.
• Experience with Agile teams, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Kepware experience including configuring IoT Gateway for PLC communication.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to collaborate across IT, engineering, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Deconstruct deployment processes to enable AI-centric, repeatable, and scalable workflows.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain plant-floor software on shop-floor IT infrastructure.
• Install and configure virtual servers in plant data centers with minimal supervision.
• Design AI/ML capabilities including generative AI for scripts and predictive maintenance analytics.
• Validate AI-generated scripts and configurations with traceability and security in mind.
• Coordinate testing with plant software to ensure data continuity and reliability.
• Support CIMPLICITY, OPC UA/DA, PLC-to-MES integrations, Kepware connectivity.
• Develop deployment automation and test automation tools; maintain technical documentation.
• Travel to physical plant locations for workshops, testing, and deployment activities.
• Review code, participate in development planning, and drive solutions to production readiness.
