Job summary

The Castle Hill YMCA is seeking a Program Director to lead our Afterschool initiative under the Youth & Family umbrella. You will serve as the strategic and operational leader for a holistic youth development program, guiding staff and ensuring high-quality, inclusive experiences for children.

Under the supervision of the Youth & Family Director, you will design engaging programming, monitor budgets, and collaborate with schools and community partners to maximize impact and sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Must have one of the following: Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or related field; New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential; School-Age Child Care Credential; or two years of college with 18 credits in related field.
  • Minimum of two years of direct experience working with children under age 13.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience in a childcare program or related field.
  • Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certification preferred.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Direct programs serving the designated grade level band (K-5 or 6-8) to ensure activities are age-appropriate and meet DYCD requirements.
  • Ensure programs are integrated into the community and meet diverse needs.
  • Develop strategies to recruit and retain participants with high attendance and engagement.
  • Develop and use quantitative measures, quality monitoring tools, and external evaluations to demonstrate effectiveness.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, measure outcomes, and implement improvements.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local community partners, funders, and evaluators to enhance program services.
  • Lead staff in implementing comprehensive mental wellness support for participants and families.
  • Coordinate a crisis plan with school social workers and mental health providers.
  • Oversee selection of SEL curricula (COMPASS/SONYC) and define target competencies.
  • Manage program budget, order supplies, and track expenses.
  • Recruit and retain a diverse, capable staff team to deliver COMPASS program with excellence.
  • Cultivate relationships with host school administration and staff.
  • Coordinate activity schedules with the host school's academic goals.
  • Maintain program documentation per OCFS, DOH, DYCD, and YMCA standards.
  • Communicate YMCA core values to participants and caregivers.
  • Maintain relationships with parents/guardians and caregivers.
  • Participate in training sessions, meetings, and events; adhere to all standards and regulations.
