Job summary

The Seattle YMCA is hiring part-time BASE instructors to guide elementary students through sports, arts, STEM, and hands-on learning in a safe, caring environment. You’ll help teach teamwork and social-emotional learning while promoting skill-building, creativity, activity, and fun.

Instructors start 8/24 and work at multiple elementary sites (Cottage Lake, East Ridge, Fernwood, Hollywood Hill, Kenmore, Kokanee, Maywood Hills, Sunrise, Wellington, Woodin, Woodmor). Must be onsite and 16+.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older; 18+ is preferred.
• 1–2 years’ experience with children in camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
• Ability to model YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• Pre-employment TB tests and MMR vaccination; Concentra options available.
• High school diploma or equivalent; enrolled in an education program acceptable.
• Completion of minimum STARS training; CPR/First Aid training either at hire or within 30 days.
• Cleared portable background check (MERIT) at hire/onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Implements culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities aligned with Youth Development goals.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure health, safety and positive experiences.
• Guides staff/volunteers overseeing activities when needed.
• Communicates day-to-day information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies, including medical, disciplinary, abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Maintains site appearance, décor and cleanliness.
• May prepare and serve snacks and clean the area.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; performs other duties as assigned.
