Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Content Specialist for the Staten Island South Shore Center. This part-time role involves selecting and managing program content, coaching staff, and ensuring high-quality Afterschool programming aligned with OCFS/DOH standards.

Responsibilities include developing curricula, supervising lesson plan execution, and providing professional development to staff, while promoting an inclusive, positive learning environment for youth across multiple COMPASS

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum of two years’ experience working with children under 13.
• At least one year in a supervisory/oversight role with staff coaching.
• Experience developing education-based curriculum/lesson plans.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Select and manage content across program areas; create curricula when needed.
• Oversee lesson plan implementation and support staff to ensure quality.
• Coach staff on lesson facilitation, classroom management, and behavior support.
• Review content to meet high-quality standards of the Y Afterschool Programs.
• Provide professional development for program staff to improve quality.
• Monitor and evaluate activities for a safe, high-quality environment.
• Help participants improve comprehension and academic skills.
• Develop activities and strategies aligned with school expectations.
• Foster motivation and positive attitudes toward learning.
• Collaborate with Afterschool staff, teachers, and school partners.
• Maintain inclusive, welcoming environment for diverse participants.
• Maintain accurate program documentation (sign-in/out, behavior reports, etc.).
• Serve as a positive role model and communicate YMCA goals to participants and caregivers.
• Participate in trainings, meetings, and special events.
• Adhere to OCFS, DOH, YMCA policies and funder standards.
