Job summary

Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. (Boeing Defense unit) seeks a Tool Engineer to design and support tooling used in aircraft manufacturing. You will apply engineering principles to create and validate jigs, fixtures, and test equipment, while ensuring compliance with government and company processes.

Qualifications

  • Requires educational credentials meeting Boeing Wichita classification standards for engineers and typically 3 to 5 years' experience.
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or related course of study from an ABET accredited University or a Master’s degree with 2 to 4 years' experience in related classification.

Responsibilities

  • Applies engineering principles to design and support airplane manufacturing tools (access equipment, structures, etc.).
  • Develops designs including concept, analysis of structural and mechanical systems, and tooling definition.
  • Identifies and implements advanced technologies to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Resolves concerns during fabrication using stress analysis and mechanics of materials.
  • Conducts trade and cost studies; ensures parts meet definition and manufacturing plan requirements.
  • Provides technical leadership to projects requiring tool engineering competencies to increase efficiency.
  • Leading process improvement and technology development for manufacturing.
  • Creates instructions and media for fabrication of tooling and tooling databases.
  • Lays out computer-generated models for tooling fabrication and NC data preparation.
  • Interfaces with production and customers to provide producibility and measurement services.

Education

ABET-accredited BS in Aerospace/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering
Master’s degree in related field
