Job summary

Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., within Spirit’s Defense Business Unit, is seeking an engineer to design and support tooling for aircraft manufacturing. You will apply mechanical and structural analysis to create jigs, fixtures, and test equipment while improving processes and ensuring manufacturability.

The role requires ABET-accredited BS in engineering and 3–5 years of related experience, with US citizenship for security clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or related ABET-accredited program.
  • Master’s degree with 2–4 years of related experience may substitute.
  • Candidate must be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance (US Citizenship required).

Responsibilities

  • Applies engineering principles to design and support airplane manufacturing tools.
  • Develops designs including concept, structural and mechanical analysis, tool definition.
  • Identifies and implements advanced technologies to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Resolves fabrication issues using stress analysis and mechanics of materials.
  • Performs trade and cost studies; coordinates tools across the family to meet manufacturing plans.
  • Provides leadership and technical input on tooling projects to improve efficiency.

Education

Bachelor's of Science in Aerospace/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering (ABET accredited)
Master’s degree (2–4 years experience)

CAD (CATIA V5/V6, NX, 3DX)

Siemens software (NASTRAN/PATRAN)
