Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD is seeking students to join a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on defense problems. You will develop models, simulations, and software to analyze missiles, RF technologies, and lab testing tools.

You will work with engineers across disciplines, learn defense applications, and contribute to high-impact projects while pursuing a technical degree and maintaining eligibility for security clearances.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field with a 3.5 GPA (4.0 scale)
  • Experience programming in MATLAB, Python, C++, Java or similar
  • Enjoy solving analytical problems and learning new technical subjects
  • Able to communicate ideas and results effectively and work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance by start date and eventual Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Develop models and simulations to understand how complex aerospace and electronic systems behave and perform
  • Write software and develop tools to analyze, test, and evaluate RF technologies
  • Apply engineering fundamentals, physics, mathematics, and data analysis to understand missile and defense system performance
  • Design flexible software tools for hardware-in-the-loop laboratory testing
  • Analyze how current and future defense technologies might perform against advanced missile threats
  • Collaborate with engineers from multiple disciplines to explore new approaches to defense problems
