Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Alaska is seeking an experienced diagnostic sonographer to autonomously perform high-quality ultrasound exams in outpatient and inpatient settings, including abdominal, vascular, OB/GYN, and small parts imaging.

You will assist in invasive procedures, interpret images, tailor protocols to patient history, mentor students and staff, participate in research, ensure QA and equipment maintenance, and support flexible scheduling across locations, with on-call and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited Sonography Program and /or ARDMS registered or registry eligible.
• One year of experience as a Sonographer preferred.
• Associate degree or above preferred
• ARDMS registered or registry eligible in the areas of abdomen, obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) and vascular technology (RVT).
• ARDMS registered in Abdomen, Obgyn, and RVT within 18 months of Mayo employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging for outpatient and inpatient settings, including abdominal, vascular, abdominal vasculature, small parts, and OB/GYN exams.
• Assists in complex invasive procedures and intraoperative cases with a team approach.
• Interprets the sonogram and communicates a preliminary clinical diagnosis to the physician.
• Identifies imaging orders for accuracy and tailors exams to patient needs.
• Maintains sterile technique, procedural setup, specimen handling, and patient monitoring.
• Participates in research and innovation studies and incorporates new technology and techniques.
• Responsible for workflow efficiency, equipment maintenance, QA, and accreditation maintenance.
• Fosters teamwork, professionalism, and mutual respect.
• Mentors and teaches students and staff, and serves as a resource for residents, fellows, and physicians.
• Staffing flexibility across locations, shifts, and on-call/holiday coverage.
