Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Texas is seeking a qualified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to augment the supervising physician's data gathering and patient care plans. You will provide health care services to patients under direction of a Physician and Medical Director.

The position involves taking detailed histories, performing exams, ordering tests, developing management plans, counseling patients, and teaching medical teams.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
• OR
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient services under direct supervision and responsibility of the Physician and/or Medical Director.
• Elicits detailed patient histories.
• Examines patients, performs a comprehensive physical examination and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
• Orders diagnostic tests, such as X-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
• Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and manages infections.
• Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes and assists in the provision of continuity of care.
• Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
• Rounds on and treat patients in hospitals on assigned service. Rounding may include up to 2 weekends per month.
• Participates in teaching efforts of the department of Surgery, such as seminars, conferences and special programs.
• Works with medical students and residents, nursing and allied health personnel as part of the acute care surgery team.

Position Description

Occasional Duties

Render emergency medical service without supervision, pending thearrival of a responsible physician, in cases where immediatediagnosis and treatment are necessary to avoid disability ordeath.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approvedby the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of theAmerican Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant licensein the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas.Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing theexaminations given by the National Commission on the Certificationof Physician Assistants.

OR

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nursepractitioner from an approved certification program recognized byTexas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by theTexas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas.Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approvedcertification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing orability to transfer certification to Texas.
