Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care management in an OB/Gyn clinic. You will perform clerical and clinical duties under supervision, document care in the EMR, take vital signs, and support the physician and RN with patient flow and equipment.

Preferred qualifications include CMA certification, CPR/BLS, and experience with EPIC EMR, with Spanish language skills a plus. This is a full-time, on-site role offering comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• License/Certification: CMA certification and BLS/CPR credentials.
• Experience: OB patient care in ambulatory settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Refer patients to resources for continuity of care and health promotion.
• Record data and monitor patient responses to inform goal setting.
• Document interventions in the EMR and take vital signs.
• Assist OB/Gyn physicians and support RN with equipment and sterilization.
• Communicate patient data via EMR to aid clinical decisions.
• Attend training and participate in department meetings as required.

Visa Information

Position Description

Employees in this classification provide patient care management to an assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. In clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. In office setting, the employee receives direct supervision from department administrator. Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions. May be stressful when working under emergency conditions. This position must supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Major/Essential Functions

• Refers patients and their families to resources that facilitate continuity of care, health promotion, and health maintenance and restoration.
• Reports data and identifies report alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals/ outcomes and patient-centered plans.
• Conducts or supports examinations and procedures, documenting interventions in the EMR system.
• Takes and records accurate vital signs and measurements.
• Assists in determining and collecting the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of patients and their families.
• Communicates patient data using EMR to support decision-making to improve patient care.
• Provides medical assistant support to Ob/Gyn physician as delegated by the physician.
• Supports the RN with ensuring all equipment used for Ob/Gyncare is functioning and operational.
• Aidsthe RN with monitoring all instruments and procedure trays to ensure they are appropriately sterilized and available for use.

Occasional Duties

• Attends trainings such as immunization updates and health department training for vision and hearing screenings.
• Participates in emergency preparedness drills in department.
• Attends nursing staff meetings and others.

Required Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.

License/Certification: Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty that particular work will be performed.

Preferred Qualifications

• CMA certification.
• Current BLS provider for CPR.
• Experience working with OB patients in an ambulatory setting.
• Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish.
• Experience with EPIC.
