Position Description

Employees in this position are responsible for managing theday-to-day administrative operations of a clinical department.Persons in this position must exercise a high degree of initiativeand independent judgment, and should have a general knowledge ofHealth Sciences Center policies and procedures as they relate todepartment financial management and personnel administration.Provide direct supervision to department staff personnel. Work isperformed under usual office conditions; deadlines, meetings andmaybe some travel. Additionally, work requires considerable contactand coordination with HSC administrative officials, administrativepersonnel of other departments and units, granting agencies, otherinstitutions, and government organizations.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Direct personnel operations, including hiring, coaching,promotions, corrective action, policy compliance, time andattendance administration, and staff development.
  • Lead strategic planning, marketing initiatives, and servicedevelopment in collaboration with the School of Medicine (SOM)central team.
  • Establish quality and performance standards, oversee patientsatisfaction initiatives, and support pay-for-performance andhealthcare quality programs.
  • Manage departmental operations, contracts, education, andresearch initiatives in partnership with the Executive AssociateDean.
  • Promote fairness, confidentiality, and faculty engagement whilesupporting operational, educational, and research priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintainappropriate staffing, equipment, and inventory levels.
  • Develop strategic growth initiatives, address performanceconcerns, strengthen physician relationships, and identify businessdevelopment opportunities.
  • Oversee the utilization and continuous improvement of EMRsystems in collaboration with SOM Clinical Transformation teams,clinical staff, and providers.
  • Coordinate participation in government and commercial qualityand value-based programs with SOM Quality Improvement, ClinicalTransformation, Clinical Operations, and Finance and Planningteams.
  • Develop marketing strategies to increase patient volumes inpartnership with TTUHSC Communications and Marketing and SOMClinical Market Development teams.
  • Coordinate reports, marketing collateral, website updates,social media content, and community outreach efforts with the SOMMarketing Team.
  • Facilitate the operational and financial review of facultypositions and support patient volume growth for newly hired SOMfaculty and providers.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in health care administration or a business-related area. Three years of progressively responsibleadministrative and supervisory experience. Working knowledge of theprinciples and fundamentals relating to budgeting, accounting,recordkeeping, and business writing; ability to establish andmaintain effective working relationships; knowledge of generaladministrative procedures that apply to functions such aspersonnel, payroll, and purchasing; ability to communicateeffectively, both orally and in writing; ability to exercisejudgment in unusual or new situations, and able to exercisediscretion when processing confidential material.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of progressive administrative leadership experiencein an academic medical center, physician group practice, or complexhealthcare environment.
  • Experience in principles and fundamentals relating to budgeting, accounting, recordkeeping, and business writing. Stronganalytical and financial acumen with a data-driven decision-makingstyle.
  • Experience leading change management and continuous improvementinitiatives.
  • Experience collaborating across diverse stakeholders in acomplex institutional environment.
  • Experience in project management and enterprise systems (ERP,HRIS, EMR, etc.).
  • Experience in multi-department management, strategic planning,financial oversight, and team leadership.
  • Experience working within a matrixed academic reportingstructure.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of physician revenue cycle,ambulatory operations, academic medical center governance, andhigher education policies.
  • Certification in Healthcare Management (e.g., FACHE, CMPE) orequivalent.
