Qualifications

Job description

NP or PA may apply. NP with acute care certification is required, though we would consider hiring a primary care NP who is willing to earn a post-master's Acute Care certification within 3 years of hire if the candidate has the right experience otherwise. Pediatric experience in an ICU setting is highly desirable and pediatric cardiology experience is preferred. This position supports pediatric cardiology procedures and inpatient populations, participating in a team model.

Responsibilities
  1. Work in conjunction with the medical director, administrative management, nursing, and other interprofessional team members to facilitate patient care and management throughout the healthcare system.
  2. Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes and procedures, as credentialed by UVA Health System.
  3. Perform and document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, including emergency interventions as needed.
  4. Formulate diagnoses, identify problems and health risk profiles, and communicate with the healthcare team.
  5. Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies in consultation with peers.
  6. Perform procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health System privileges.
  7. Order medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with Virginia regulations.
  8. Request consultations and initiate referrals to other providers, including specialists.
  9. Evaluate patient responses to treatments and interventions.
  10. Provide education and support to patients and families regarding disease processes and treatments.
  11. Participate in on-call responsibilities as appropriate.
  12. Manage patients according to UVA policies and procedures.
  13. Report critical health information to legal or governmental authorities in a timely manner.
  14. Meet quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and UVA Health System.
  15. May serve on committees and participate in clinical education of students, interns, and residents.
  16. Prepare reports, claims, and correspondence related to professional services.
  17. Promote professional practice by serving as a clinical resource.
  18. Follow policies and procedures, including those of UVA Medical Center and payers.
  19. Accurately assign CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  20. Engage in continuing education through conferences, reports, and professional activities.
  21. Seek opportunities for professional development and growth.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with professional practice.
Position Compensation Range

$86,049.60 - $137,675.20 annually

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
  • Experience: Department and unit specific.
  • Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider in Virginia, with specific requirements for Nurse Practitioners including RN license, credentialing, and certifications such as BLS, PALS/NRP, ACLS as applicable.
Physical Demands

Standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, reaching, repetitive motion, and lifting/pushing/pulling 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, infectious materials, and other hazards.
