Job description

UOVUNIUSREXTERNALENUS The position at UVA Health's Medical Center in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU) and Surgical Intermediate Care Unit (SIMU) offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP).

Position Details

This full-time role (40 hours/week) involves rotating 12.5-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with a self-scheduling model in place.

The APP will evaluate and treat surgical and trauma patients, perform bedside procedures such as central line placement, arterial line placement, and bronchoscopy, and contribute to learner education. Ideal candidates will possess excellent critical thinking, communication, clinical judgment, and medical decision-making skills, and be effective team players.

Qualifications
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of surgical critical care experience in a tertiary academic medical center. New graduates with related experience will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, leadership abilities, and experience with quality improvement efforts.

Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with the medical director, management, nursing, and interprofessional teams to facilitate patient care.
  2. Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical procedures, as credentialed.
  3. Perform health histories, physical assessments, and emergency therapies as needed.
  4. Formulate diagnoses, identify problems, and communicate with the healthcare team.
  5. Order and interpret diagnostic studies, perform procedures within scope, and order medications and treatments.
  6. Request consultations and referrals as needed.
  7. Evaluate patient responses to interventions.
  8. Provide education and support to patients and families.
  9. Participate in on-call duties, adhere to policies, and serve on committees as needed.
  10. Participate in clinical education of students and residents.
  11. Maintain documentation, promote professional practice, and pursue continuing education.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Compensation and Requirements

Salary range: $98,842 - $158,142 annually.

Minimum requirements include a master's degree from an accredited program, Virginia licensure or eligibility, current BLS, and position-specific certifications (PALS/NRP, ACLS).

Physical Demands

Standing for prolonged periods, bending, reaching, repetitive motions, and lifting/pushing/pulling 50-100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, infectious materials.
