Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Des Moines, IA seeks an Advanced Medical Support Assistant to support a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) or specialty care in a PACT setting. The role emphasizes coordinating clinic utilization, managing communications, and maintaining patient records.

You will work with clinicians to ensure smooth patient flow, scheduling across care settings, and timely follow-up. This position requires English proficiency and US citizenship, with opportunities to develop

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen.
High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
Proficient in spoken and written English.
Experience requirement: KSAs demonstrated at GS-5/6 level.
Ability to operate computerized systems including EHR and scheduling.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with patient care team to review clinic utilization and support clinic setup.
Develop and maintain effective communication with patient, interdisciplinary team and VA facilities.
Facilitate secure messaging with patients and team.
Notify patients of lab results and manage follow-up tracking (consults, tests).
Participate in team huddles and plan patient care and workflow priorities.
Enter information into electronic records and support continuity of care.
