Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Courtesy Clerk to greet customers, package purchases, and help keep the store clean and welcoming. You will assist customers, stock shelves, and support in multiple areas of the store as needed.

No prior education or experience is required; on-the-job training is provided to succeed in this active role. In this hourly position, you’ll work with a friendly team to ensure a positive shopping experience and smooth store operations.

Qualifications

• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables.
• Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
• Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
• Work effectively as part of a team to keep the store clean and customers happy.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going out of your way to make every visit a great one.
• Package customer purchases and assist customers in transporting them to their mode of transportation.
• Bring carts in from the parking lot and cart corrals throughout your shift.
• Clean registers, restrooms, the break room, and the backroom, and sweep and mop floors as needed.
• Clean the can redemption area and empty recycle bins where applicable.
• Stock, face, and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, understand shelf tags, and know the location of merchandise in the store and backroom.
• Pull product forward on shelves to maintain a full, organized appearance.
• Check prices on products as needed.
• Maintain front end supplies including paper and plastic bags, receipt paper, and other necessary items.
• Help train new courtesy clerks.
• Deliver product to customers and assist in all departments as requested within wage and hour guidelines.
• Shovel, salt, and sand walkways as needed.
• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned.
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
• Report to work when scheduled and on time.
