Job summary

The Cyperus Group, a New York City staffing agency specializing in accounting and finance, is partnering with a nonprofit organization in the NYC area to recruit an Accounts Payable Specialist. The role focuses on processing vendor invoices, PO matching, and ensuring proper coding and approvals.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of AP experience, strong Excel and accounting software skills, and a keen attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of Accounts Payable experience.
• Experience working in a nonprofit organization is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and AP procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Process a high volume of vendor invoices accurately and timely.
• Match invoices to purchase orders and supporting documentation.
• Review and verify invoices for proper approvals and coding.
• Prepare and process weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers.
• Maintain vendor files and respond to vendor inquiries.
• Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies.
• Assist with month-end closing activities, including account reconciliations and accruals.
• Ensure expenses are charged to the appropriate grants, programs, and department budgets when applicable.
• Monitor compliance with organizational policies and funding requirements.
• Assist with annual audits by providing supporting documentation.
• Maintain accurate records and filing systems.
• Collaborate with accounting and finance team members on special projects and process improvements.

• Salary range: $55,000 - $60,000
• Hourly equivalent: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
