Job description

Department: Finance & Accounting

About the Role

A growing company is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to independently own the day-to-day accounting function and help strengthen the financial processes supporting the business.

This is a working manager role—not a position focused solely on reviewing or delegating work. The Accounting Manager will remain close to the details, from transactional accounting and reconciliations through month-end close, financial reporting, cash flow management, and cross-functional problem-solving.

Our accounting team operates in a lean, remote environment with limited day-to-day oversight. We’re looking for someone who takes initiative, works with urgency, communicates proactively, and is comfortable figuring things out independently.

Success in this role requires someone who can use available resources, prior documentation, system information, and independent research to move work forward without waiting for step-by-step direction. At the same time, this person must have the judgment and confidence to ask questions and escal ???.

What You’ll Do
  • Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow reporting
  • Perform and oversee day-to-day transactional accounting, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Independently investigate and resolve billing, collections, vendor payment, and account discrepancies
  • Support payroll accounting and related reconciliations as needed
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, working capital analysis, and variance reporting
  • Maintain and strengthen accounting controls, approval workflows, and reconciliation processes
  • Support recurring compliance requirements and coordinate with external accountants, tax providers, auditors, and other financial partners
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, documentation, controls, and efficiency
  • Support and optimize accounting systems, including QuickBooks and/or NetSuite
  • Maintain clear accounting documentation and processes that support consistency and accountability in a remote environment
Leadership & How You’ll Work
  • Directly manage one accounting team member located overseas
  • Set clear priorities, deadlines, and expectations and ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned work
  • Provide appropriate guidance and follow-up while maintaining accountability for the overall accounting function
  • Work independently and take ownership without requiring frequent direction or follow-up
  • Use company resources, prior documentation, system information, and independent research to troubleshoot routine issues before escalating
  • Maintain strong communication and visibility while working remotely
  • Be highly responsive to requests, questions, deadlines, and time-sensitive accounting matters
  • Work with urgency while maintaining accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Partner remotely with Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Sales, and company leadership to resolve accounting and business issues
  • Recognize when an issue requires additional guidance or escalation and speak up promptly rather than allowing work to stall
  • Manage priorities effectively and consistently follow through on commitments
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong hands-on ownership of transactional accounting, month-end close, and day-to-day accounting operations
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and cash flow management
  • Experience working in a small or mid-sized organization where accounting responsibilities are broad
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, packaging, or another product-based environment strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and/or NetSuite
  • Experience supervising or coordinating work with a remote or overseas team member preferred
  • Demonstrated success working independently in a remote or low-supervision environment
  • Strong initiative, resourcefulness, responsiveness, sound judgment, and follow-through
  • Ability to prioritize and execute work quickly and independently without requiring frequent oversight
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence to ask questions, raise concerns, and elevate issues when appropriate
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities remotely
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • CPA or other accounting credential is a plus

This is a full-time remote position. The Accounting Manager must be able to work effectively and independently from a professional remote environment while remaining accessible and responsive during established business hours.

Because this role works closely with company leadership, internal departments, external financial partners, and an overseas accounting team member, consistent communication and availability are essential.

The position is available for an immediate start. While the role generally follows a standard business schedule, occasional availability outside regular business hours may be necessary for month-end and year-end close, time-sensitive accounting matters, deadlines, or collaboration across time zones.

Final compensation will be based on relevant experience, technical capability, and overall fit for the role. We provide medical, dental, and vision benefits, paid time off, and company holidays.

Why Join

This role offers an opportunity to take meaningful ownership of an accounting function, work closely with company leadership, and directly influence how financial processes operate and improve. It is particularly well suited for someone who enjoys being hands-on, autonomous, resourceful, and accountable and who thrives in an environment where they are trusted to identify issues, find solutions, communicate proactively, and keep work moving forward.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to have a visible impact while helping build a stronger, more scalable accounting function within a growing organization.
