Job summary

County Emergency Communications is seeking qualified individuals to handle emergency and nonemergency calls, verify locations and details, and coordinate response using CAD systems. You will assess priorities, dispatch responders, monitor radio traffic, and provide caller instructions within training limits.

Responsibilities include documenting events, maintaining confidentiality, and collaborating with field personnel to ensure rapid, accurate incident management in a demanding public safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some agencies may recruit entry-level applicants.
• Strong typing, listening, and clear communication skills are essential.
• Ability to organize information under pressure and follow procedures.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and nonemergency calls within the service area.
• Confirm addresses, callback numbers, incident details, and immediate safety concerns.
• Assess call priority using approved questions and agency procedures.
• Enter incident information into computer-aided dispatch systems.
• Dispatch appropriate responders when assigned to radio operations.
• Monitor radio traffic and update responding personnel as circumstances change.
• Provide approved caller instructions within training and certification limits.
• Maintain accurate records and protect confidential information.
