Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; previous call-taking or dispatch experience helpful but not always required.
• Strong listening and comprehension abilities; accurate typing and clear verbal communication are essential.
• Ability to follow structured procedures and work under pressure in a public safety environment.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency calls and trace caller information.
• Confirm incident location, callback details, and essential data.
• Use approved questions to determine nature and urgency of incidents.
• Enter data into call-processing software accurately and promptly.
• Transmit incident information to the appropriate dispatch function without delay.
• Provide caller instructions within training and policy.
