Job summary

KingRecruitingServices is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead the second shift in the paint operations within a unionized automotive manufacturing facility in Grand Rapids, MI. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and productivity with hands-on floor leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

You will oversee one Team Leader and about 25 employees across loading, unloading, line support, inventory, and material handling, ensuring on-time production and continuous improvement through

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or team leadership in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Strong floor leadership to organize people, set expectations, resolve issues, and maintain accountability.
• Automotive manufacturing experience; plastics injection molding, blow molding, painted plastics desirable.
• Knowledge of paint coatings, finishing, curing, or paint-quality requirements preferred.
• Experience in a unionized facility with collective bargaining rules.
• Exposure to automated lines, robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, conveyors, sensors.
• Strong communication, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Willingness to work full second shift before/after shift as needed.
• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or leadership training beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on leadership for second-shift paint operations and ensure safe, efficient execution of the production schedule.
• Lead, coach, and supervise one Team Leader and ~25 employees across loading, unloading, line support, inventory, material handling, and quality.
• Assign labor to meet daily production needs and maintain shift continuity.
• Monitor paint-line performance, quality, scrap, downtime, and material usage; take corrective action.
• Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with PPE, chemical handling, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance and Production to resolve defects and ensure coating quality.
• Troubleshoot automated paint line, robotics, conveyors, sensors, and related equipment; escalate as needed.
• Ensure proper staging and tracking of paint, components, and materials.
• Conduct shift start-up meetings and provide handovers to the next shift.
• Train and develop employees; enforce standardized work and policies.
• Prepare production reports and drive Lean, 5S, root-cause analysis for improvements.
