Job summary

O’Neal Steel in Peru, IL is seeking an Operations Supervisor for 2nd shift (2:30pm-11pm) to oversee processing, loading and shipping of orders, ensuring quality and on-time delivery while maintaining safety and cost standards.

The role serves as the first-line liaison between hourly staff and management, driving continuous improvement through lean practices, training, and cross-functional coordination on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience in manufacturing/distribution.
• Experience in steel processing or service center preferred.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Experience with safety training, truck scheduling, and routing.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise warehouse and delivery employees, including schedules, performance, and payroll.
• Ensure personnel have training, work instructions, and tools to perform duties.
• Coordinate and execute the production work schedule.
• Develop, plan and coordinate cross-training opportunities for employees.
• Supervise shop activities to meet quality standards.
• Make daily assignments to meet delivery dates.
• Utilize lean manufacturing to drive continuous improvement.
• Evaluate service levels and adjust staffing.
• Assist maintenance planning to maximize uptime.
• Administer policies and monitor performance.
• Drive safety and housekeeping improvements (Visual Factory, 5-S).
• Meet KPI targets (OTD, QDR, LTA, MH/Ton).
• Provide error-free output to customers.
