Job summary

Akamai Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Platform Operations Engineer II to monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve platform issues across our distributed computing platform.

You will work with engineers and vendors to maintain system stability and respond to incidents 24x7 across global services. The role requires UNIX experience, SQL knowledge, and a strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, HTTP).

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Experience administering UNIX-based operating systems.
• Experience with fault detection, troubleshooting, and incident/ticketing processes.
• Ability to write SQL queries and understand TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, and HTTP.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with attention to detail.
• Active Secret security clearance.
• Ability to work on-site Monday through Friday at the Cambridge, MA office.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring, troubleshooting, and correcting emerging platform problems via alerts, emails, and calls.
• Collaborating with Engineers, System Architects, Infrastructure Vendors, and Customers to isolate problems and improve operational stability.
• Updating and patching system software components and configurations.
• Documenting work in the trouble ticketing system for clear communication and learning.
• Developing and maintaining documentation, procedures, and tools.
