Job summary

St. Vincent de Paul in Maryland seeks a Shift Supervisor to oversee daily shelter operations, supervise staff and volunteers, and ensure guest safety and welfare. You will manage intakes, program scheduling, and coordinate with case managers to support guests toward stability and self-sufficiency.

You will also help maintain HMIS records, oversee youth activities, and handle on-call coverage and crisis situations as they arise.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 2 years’ experience with homelessness or similar client groups, focusing on women and children.
• Experience in crisis intervention, behavior management or conflict resolution.
• Ability to work non-judgmentally with diverse backgrounds.
• Respect for guest confidentiality and privacy.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to staff, volunteers and guests.
• Coordinate scheduling of daily services (laundry, showers, chores, token distribution).
• Oversee supportive services participation (life skills, job readiness, parenting).
• Ensure safety and security; conduct perimeter checks and manage coverage for shifts.
• Assist with new guest intakes, room assignments and HMIS intake processes.
• Collaborate with case managers on crisis situations and follow-up actions.
• Monitor attendance, bed utilization, and program compliance.
• Represent the shelter in external meetings when needed.
