Job summary

ST VINCENT DE PAUL OF BALTIMORE INC is seeking a Program Assistant to provide essential 24-hour awake coverage and oversee daily shelter operations in a respectful, dignified manner. You will work closely with clients, case managers, and staff to ensure needs are met and guests transition toward stability.

Responsibilities include supervising residents and volunteers, handling meal distribution, maintaining records, and responding to emergencies per shelter protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability and willingness to relate with others in a respectful manner and work well as a team member.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants and refer them to case management staff.
• Sensitivity to the needs of persons who are homeless and able to work with diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of confidentiality of clients.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour awake coverage and oversee day-to-day shelter operations.
• Assign volunteer tasks to shelter guests and monitor completion.
• Ensure safety and security of guests, staff, and visitors.
• Respond promptly to emergencies according to shelter protocols.
• Supervise children and encourage participation in activities.
• Assist residents with daily living activities, meals, navigation, and transportation.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and incident reports as needed.
• Foster a peaceful, respectful environment and mediate conflicts.
