Job summary

ST VINCENT de PAUL OF BALTIMORE INC is seeking a Program Assistant to provide essential 24-hour awake coverage and manage day-to-day shelter operations. The role focuses on welfare, safety, and comfort of guests, with crisis intervention and resource referrals as needed.

The PA will work closely with clients, case managers, and shelter staff to ensure dignified and supportive care, enabling guests to move toward stability and self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to relate with others respectfully and work as a team member.
• Respect for client confidentiality and boundaries.
• Ability to organize tasks and manage daily responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour awake coverage and manage day-to-day shelter operations.
• Assign volunteer tasks and support guests to complete them.
• Ensure safety and security of guests, volunteers, visitors and staff.
• Respond promptly to emergencies following shelter protocols.
• Supervise children with parents and encourage participation in activities.
• Assist residents with daily activities, meals, transportation, and resource navigation.
• Maintain accurate sign-in and attendance records; address discrepancies.
• Mediates conflicts to maintain a peaceful environment.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks and report repairs as needed.
• Assist with donations, food orders, and special events.
