Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking a Paraeducator for Learning Support to provide one-on-one assistance and classroom support for students with special needs. The position runs 6.5 hours per day, nine months per year, with responsibilities including instructional support, data tracking, and collaboration with certificated staff.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, possibly an associate's degree or ParaPro score, and prior experience with children in educational settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; official transcripts may be requested.
• Associate's degree or 72 quarter/48 semester credits from an accredited institution; ParaPro assessment 461+ acceptable.
• One year of related experience with children in an educational setting preferred.
• Experience as part of an educational team preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills; quick thinking.

Responsibilities

• Treat coworkers, supervisors, students, parents with dignity and respect at all times.
• Support certificated staff in developing goals for each student.
• Assist with classroom activities and instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Lead small groups or individualized instruction in reading, writing, math, and social/behavioral skills.
• Assist with data entry, record keeping, and filing.
• Communicate progress and collaborate with teachers about accommodations and modifications.
• Implement behavior support plans for students with behavior needs.
• Attend training meetings to broaden expertise in working with students with special needs.
