FINANCE DIRECTOR

To lead the corporate group’s finance function end-to-end, ensuring strong financial governance, reliable reporting, disciplined cashflow management, and commercial finance partnership to support sustainable growth. This role owns the “finance operating system”; standards, controls, risk posture, stakeholder reporting, and decision support while developing a high-performing lean team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

FINANCE LEADERSHIP & EXECUTIVE PARTNERING

  • Act as a trusted advisor to CEO/senior leadership/Board/shareholders on group financial performance, governance, and strategic decisions.

  • Translate financial data into clear options and recommendations (trade-offs, risks, scenario impacts).

  • Build a finance culture that is commercially minded, control-conscious, and operationally pragmatic.

FINANCIAL REPORTING GOVERNANCE & CLOSE OVERSIGHT

  • Own the finance calendar, reporting cadence, and quality gates (e.g., close timeline, reconciliations standards, review checklist).

  • Review and sign off management accounts, forecasts, and key reporting before distribution to CEO/Board/shareholders.

  • Ensure accounting treatments are appropriate, consistent, and audit-ready (including revenue recognition implications relevant to events/rights-based revenue).

TREASURY, CASH STRATEGY & FINANCIAL RISK CONTROL

  • Own group-level cash strategy: runway planning, liquidity thresholds, and cash visibility.

  • Maintain and review a rolling cash forecast discipline (e.g., weekly 13-week view where needed).

  • Oversee banking relationships, payment controls, signatory governance, and (where relevant) FX exposure management.

  • Partner with HR on payroll planning and execution oversight (timeliness, accuracy, approvals).

FINANCIAL CONTROLS, GOVERNANCE & COMPLIANCE

  • Design, implement, and enforce the group’s Delegation of Authority (DoA) and financial control framework (approval flows, spend controls, credit controls).

  • Monitor compliance, investigate control breaches, and drive remediation — keeping the business moving without letting it get sloppy.

  • Own finance policies/SOPs and ensure the team operates consistently across entities.

FP&A LEADERSHIP (Budgeting, Forecasting, Performance insights)

  • Lead annual budget cycle and reforecast cadence; set standards for assumptions, documentation, and sign-offs.

  • Deliver insight-led performance commentary (variance drivers, scenario planning, sensitivities).

  • Build KPI reporting aligned to the business model (event profitability, margin drivers, cash conversion, pipeline impact).

COMMERCIAL FINANCE & DECISION SUPPORT

  • Partner business leads on pricing/margins, contract payment terms, cost models, and profitability analysis across events/sponsorship/broadcast/ticketing.

  • Ensure strategic and/or long-term growth projects (e.g. strategic partnerships, joint ventures, product launches and redevelopment, investments and market entries) have finance-reviewed business cases with measurable outcomes.

  • Provide post-event financial performance views and lessons learned to improve future planning.

AUDIT, TAX & SHAREHOLDER REPORTING LEADERSHIP

  • Own auditor relationship, audit plan/timeline, and closure of audit findings.

  • Ensure tax governance: timely filings, appropriate positions, and oversight of complex tax matters (GST/VAT, withholding tax, income tax as applicable).

  • Partner shareholder finance teams on consolidated reporting requirements and governance expectations.

TEAM LEADERSHIP, OPERATING MODEL & CAPABILITY BUILDING

  • Lead, coach, and develop the finance team; set clear standards, delegation, and accountability.

  • Ensure finance work is scalable: documented processes, cross-training, and sensible automation.

  • Drive continuous improvement of tools and workflows (accounting, approvals, payments) while ensuring controls are robust and processes remain efficient and user-friendly.

REQUIREMENTS

Essentials:

  • 10+ years relevant finance experience.

  • Professional qualification: CA / CPA / ACCA (or equivalent).

  • Proven people management experience (leading and developing finance staff & building operating rhythm and standards).

  • Strong competency across reporting, controls, FP&A, audit, and tax governance.

  • High proficiency in MS365 especially Excel and comfort working with modern finance tools.

Desirables:

  • Experience in startups/high-growth companies (e.g., scaling finance operations; exposure to Series funding rounds).

  • Experience working with diverse stakeholder groups across cultures and seniority (including shareholders and auditors).

  • Industry exposure to sport, entertainment, media rights-based or event-led businesses.Familiarity with finance and payments systems such as Xero, Syft, ApprovalMax, Zoho, Airwallex (or similar).
