Job summary

Workforce Gateway is seeking a Wine Sommelier to manage the restaurant's wine selection, provide expert wine recommendations, and deliver professional wine service. Qualifications

• Relevant experience as a Wine Sommelier or in restaurant wine service.
• Good knowledge of international wines, grape varieties and wine regions.
• Understanding of wine and food pairing.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Professional wine presentation, tasting and serving abilities.
• Knowledge of wine inventory and stock management.
• Strong sales and customer relationship management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a restaurant team.
• Well-organised, detail-oriented and customer-focused.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain wine list and beverage selection.
• Recommend suitable wines to complement the food menu.
• Research and identify new wines, wineries and wine suppliers.
• Assist management in selecting wines based on customer preferences and business requirements.
• Maintain an updated wine list with accurate descriptions and pricing.
• Welcome customers and understand their wine preferences.
• Recommend wines based on food selections, taste preferences and budgets.
• Explain wine varieties, origins, grape types, flavours and characteristics.
• Provide professional wine-tasting recommendations and guidance.
• Ensure excellent customer service and memorable dining experiences.
• Serve wines according to professional service standards.
• Ensure correct opening, pouring, decanting and presentation techniques.
• Maintain proper wine serving temperatures and clean serviceware.
• Coordinate with service staff to provide wine pairings.
• Monitor wine stock levels and inventory records.
• Coordinate with suppliers for wine purchases and replenishment.
• Conduct stocktaking and monitor stock movement.
• Ensure proper storage conditions, including temperature and humidity.
• Monitor wine wastage and discrepancies.
• Promote wine selections and packages to customers.
• Develop wine-pairing promotions and tasting events.
• Recommend premium wine options when appropriate.
• Support management in beverage sales targets.
