Job description

We are looking for an experienced Unix Engineer with strong expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and associated technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and optimising our RHEL environments, OpenShift clusters, JBoss application servers, and Red Hat Satellite infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain RHEL systems across development, testing, and production environments
  • Design, implement, and support OpenShift container platforms
  • Administer and troubleshoot JBoss application servers
  • Utilise Red Hat Satellite for system provisioning, patching, and configuration management
  • Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Perform system upgrades, patches, and maintenance tasks
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations and processes
  • Collaborate with development teams to support application deployment and operations
  • Participate in on-call rotations for critical system support

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in Unix/Linux administration, with a focus on RHEL
  • Strong knowledge of OpenShift container platform administration
  • Experience with JBoss application server management
  • Proficiency in using Red Hat Satellite for system management

Required Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of RHEL system administration and troubleshooting
  • Experience with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash) and at least one programming language (e.g., Python)
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet)
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging solutions (e.g., Prometheus, ELK stack)

Preferred Skills:

  • Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE, or higher)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Familiarity with database administration (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery solutions
