Job summary

Tampines Primary School is seeking a School Social Worker to support student welfare, conduct investigations into bullying incidents, and coordinate restorative conversations under the guidance of Year Head and Principal.

The role requires at least two years of experience with children, qualifications in Social Work or related fields, and strong communication skills for confidential case notes and parent liaison.

Qualifications

• At least two years of direct experience working with children or youths, preferably in a school, youth, community or social-service setting.
• Experience in student discipline, case management, restorative practices, counselling support, youth mentoring or behaviour management is an advantage.
• Ability to build rapport with primary school children while maintaining professional boundaries and appropriate authority.
• Ability to conduct sensitive conversations objectively, listen to differing accounts and document information accurately.
• Ability to remain calm, impartial and non-judgmental during conflict; sound judgement in recognising cases requiring immediate escalation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for case notes and communication with staff and parents; integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Gather accounts from students, witnesses and other affected parties to establish the facts of reported bullying, peer conflict and student conduct concerns.
• Support the Year Head with interviews, review of information, documentation and follow-up. Final disciplinary decisions remain with the Principal and the school's student management team.
• Engage students constructively and facilitate restorative conversations where approved by the Year Head. Refer bullying, significant power imbalance, safety concerns or serious misconduct for direction before any joint dialogue.
• Support the Year Head or Form Teacher in communicating with parents and guardians. Obtain prior clearance before communicating findings or disciplinary decisions, attributing fault or making commitments on the school's behalf.
• Promptly escalate student safety and well-being concerns, suspected abuse, self-harm, serious violence, sexual misconduct, severe or repeated bullying and threats; take only immediate safeguarding action pending direction.
• Supervise students during designated recesses, examinations, detention and student movement. Encourage reflection, record attendance and significant incidents, and refer disciplinary matters to the responsible teacher or Year Head.
• Maintain accurate case notes, provide progress updates, and protect confidential student and family information using authorised school systems only. Follow MOE guidelines and the school's code of conduct.
• Work within the school's student management structures. This role does not include classroom teaching duties.
