About the Role

As Regional Manager, Mental Health & Addictions, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the planning, funding, and integration of Mental Health and Addiction services across the Central Region. Leading a team of Portfolio Managers, you will be responsible for commissioning services that improve access, quality, and equity of mental health care across both hospital and community settings.

This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for a large and complex portfolio, requiring strong system thinking, financial stewardship, and the ability to work in partnership with clinicians, providers, iwi, communities, and government agencies. You will lead the implementation of regional Mental Health and Addiction priorities, support the development of new models of care, and ensure services are sustainable, outcomes-focused, and aligned with national and regional strategies.

About you

You are a credible, values-driven leader with extensive experience in health commissioning and service redesign, ideally within Mental Health and Addiction settings. You bring strong strategic capability, a collaborative leadership style, and a deep commitment to improving equity and outcomes for priority populations.

You will have:

  • A relevant tertiary or professional qualification
  • Extensive experience (8–10+ years) in health commissioning and service redesign, including leadership of complex portfolios
  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing teams
  • Strong understanding of commissioning cycles, funding models, and the machinery of government
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships across iwi, communities, providers, clinicians, and government agencies
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with experience guiding teams through complexity and change
  • A clear commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equitable mental health outcomes for Māori and other priority populations
