Job summary

Job Descriptions
  • Interpret and review technical documents, blueprints, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and project-specific inspection and test plans (ITP).
  • Inspect base materials and welding consumables to ensure they match specifications and have the required certification and traceability.
  • Verify welder qualifications and maintain current records of their certifications and performance.
  • Conduct fit-up inspections, verify joint preparation, and monitor preheating processes to ensure compliance with procedures before welding begins.
  • Monitor welding processes to ensure welders adhere to the correct parameters and use the proper techniques and equipment.
  • Perform visual inspections and dimensional checks on completed welds to identify defects such as cracks, porosity, or undercut.
  • Coordinate and review NDT reports, which may include visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT or MPI), liquid penetrant testing (PT or LPT), ultrasonic testing (UT), and radiographic testing (RT).
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain comprehensive records, manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), and compile final documentation dossiers for clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Promote adherence to all shipyard safety and quality procedures, participate in quality audits, and assist in developing and improving welding procedures.
Qualifications
  • Understanding of various welding techniques (SMAW, FCAW, TIG), Metallurgy – Ship building Material, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards such as AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API standards, and classification society rules – American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
  • Certification - Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) from the American Welding Society (AWS) or CSWIP (Certification Scheme for Welding Inspection Personnel) from TWI. Good to have ASNT Level II certification in NDT.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), leadership potential, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Shipyard Working experience preferred.
