Job description

The Private Museum is hiring a Museum Associate to join our team and play a part in bringing art and its stories to a wider audience. Working within an arts space, you will have opportunities to develop creative content, gain insight into museum operations and contribute to exhibitions that connect artists, private collections and the public.

The Museum Associate will be part of the core museum team, working under the guidance and reporting to the relevant supervisor across three key areas: content creation, exhibition support, and administration. The role offers opportunities to shape how the museum shares its stories, gain hands-on experience in exhibition preparation and execution, and support the daily operations that make our work possible. With content creation and administration forming the core responsibilities, involvement in exhibition and curatorial work offers a broader understanding of museum practice.

Key Responsibilities
1. Content Creation and Communications
  • Develop and produce content for the museum's social media and digital platforms, including photographs, short-form videos, captions and other publicity materials.
  • Support the planning and maintenance of a content calendar covering exhibitions, public programmes, events and museum activities.
  • Document exhibitions, artist interviews, programmes and behind-the-scenes activities through photography and video.
  • Assist with copywriting, editing and scheduling content, ensuring accuracy and consistency with the museum's voice and visual identity.
  • Organise and maintain the museum's digital content archive, including image credits and usage permissions.
  • Monitor audience engagement and contribute ideas to strengthen the museum's digital presence.
2. Administration and Operations
  • Support corporate governance administration through the preparation, filing and upkeep of meeting papers, minutes and organisational records.
  • Assist with compiling supporting documents for reporting, audits and submissions, under the guidance of the relevant supervisor.
  • Maintain inventories of museum supplies, equipment, merchandise and other operational assets.
  • Support routine finance administration, including invoices, receipts, payment requests, expense claims and transaction records.
  • Assist with purchasing, obtaining quotations and coordinating with suppliers and service providers.
  • Maintain organised records and correspondence, and support daily office and premises administration, including maintenance scheduling.
3. Exhibition and Programme Support
  • Work within assigned exhibition teams under the direction of the relevant supervisor.
  • Assist with exhibition preparation, installation and deinstallation, including logistics, documentation and coordination.
  • Support the preparation and checking of artwork information, labels, checklists and exhibition materials.
  • Assist with exhibition openings, public programmes and other museum events, including registration, visitor enquiries and on-site coordination.
  • Undertake artwork handling and movement only with appropriate training and supervision.
  • Contribute to other museum duties as reasonably assigned.
