Associate Professor (Public Health)

The National University of Singapore –the top ranked university in Asia – is recruiting full-time or part-time Assistant Professor/Associate Professor (Practice) for the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. The part-time appointment will be considered on a case-to-case basis.

The positions are non-tenure-track appointments with a standard teaching load but a focus on developing, leading and implementing programs and projects. While research is not part of the terms of reference, research opportunities exist and are supported. In additional to an attractive salary and benefits package, new faculty members are eligible for subsidised university accommodation.

The School has a small Occupational Health program with an Occupational Health track within the MPH Program and hosts the only Occupational Medicine Residency program in Singapore. Our focus areas are the health and medical aspects of work and health promotion at the workplace. The School was instrumental in designing the Singapore approach of Total Workplace Safety & Health, which is currently being rolled out as the national approach to comprehensive workplace health. The School is recognized as a WHO Collaborating Center in Occupational Health. It does not have a program for safety officers.

The focus for the new faculty will be on regional activities in ASEAN and capacity building programs in collaboration with various Asian countries.

Professionals and faculty experienced in one or more of the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply:

• Occupational health and safety with a focus on occupational medicine
• Workplace health promotion and corporate health management
• Teaching of students and professionals in workplace risk control strategies and health programs
• Development of innovative national or corporate strategies and interventions in workplace health
• Evaluation of and implementation research on workplace programs and projects including economic analyses
• Experience in research on prevention and control of exposures of working populations or surrounding communities as well as health promotion programs

Qualifications

• Recognized doctoral degree in a relevant discipline with a strong post-doctoral professional and/or academic record
• Experience in developing, leading, implementing and evaluating projects and programs
• Ability to teach public health courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels
• Experience in adult education
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary team
• Ability to work with and teach culturally diverse audiences
• Ability to generate an independent stream of project funding

A track record in research and publishing on relevant topics is an additional advantage.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Developing and leading capacity building programs for the School’s regional and international collaborations in ASEAN
• Develop approaches to the evaluation and improvement of workplace health and health promotion programs
• Designing curricula and courses, teaching and advising graduate students
• Contributing to policy development in the field of public health and specifically workplace health
