Role Context
The Survey Engineer will provide the dimensional and positional control required for accurate construction across complex project areas. Working with Engineering, Construction, Quality, Planning, BIM, consultants, contractors, and project management teams, the role will verify that civil, structural, utility, road, pavement, and airfield works are built to approved coordinates, levels, alignments, gradients, and tolerances. Reliable survey control and early identification of discrepancies will help prevent rework, support quality acceptance, and maintain consistency between design information and actual site conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute surveying activities in line with approved construction schedules, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Establish, maintain, and verify control points, benchmarks, reference stations, and project coordinate systems.
- Review survey control networks and confirm consistency and accuracy across project work areas.
- Perform setting-out for civil, structural, infrastructure, utilities, roads, pavements, buildings, and airfield works.
- Establish construction grids, reference lines, elevations, coordinates, and levels required for site execution.
- Carry out surveys for runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, drainage systems, utilities, foundations, structures, and related infrastructure.
- Conduct topographical, boundary, verification, and as-built surveys where required.
- Verify existing site conditions and identify discrepancies between field data and approved design information.
- Review IFC drawings, alignments, profiles, levels, coordinates, and survey requirements before construction activities begin.
- Coordinate with Design and Engineering teams to resolve inconsistencies between drawings and actual site conditions.
- Conduct pre-construction surveys and provide accurate setting-out information to site teams.
- Monitor ongoing construction against approved alignments, coordinates, slopes, elevations, gradients, and dimensional tolerances.
- Perform quality verification surveys and submit survey evidence to Engineering and Quality teams.
- Carry out earthworks and grading surveys, including cut-and-fill calculations and formation-level verification.
- Survey roads and pavements for alignment, cross-sections, profiles, slopes, levels, and geometric compliance.
- Support airfield construction by verifying runway, taxiway, apron, shoulder, drainage, and pavement geometry.
- Conduct utility surveys and confirm the location, depth, route, level, and interfaces of underground and above-ground services.
- Perform structural setting-out for foundations, columns, slabs, steelwork, equipment bases, and other building elements.
- Carry out dimensional control surveys for structural steel and major mechanical equipment where required.
- Conduct settlement, deformation, and movement monitoring surveys when specified by the project.
- Operate Total Stations, GNSS, GPS, Digital Levels, Laser Scanners, and other approved surveying equipment.
- Process and verify field data using approved surveying and engineering software.
- Ensure survey equipment remains maintained, calibrated, verified, and fit for purpose.
- Keep accurate calibration and equipment verification records.
- Prepare field books, calculations, coordinate data, survey drawings, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Review contractor survey submissions and verify technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Review or support approval of survey-related Inspection Requests and Survey Requests where applicable.
- Provide Quality teams with survey records and objective evidence needed for inspection and acceptance.
- Prepare and review as-built surveys and confirm actual installed conditions against approved requirements.
- Provide survey data and coordinate information to BIM teams for model verification and digital coordination.
- Coordinate with GIS and digital engineering personnel where geospatial information is required.
- Identify dimensional deviations, survey discrepancies, and tolerance issues and elevate them to relevant Engineering and Construction teams.
- Support investigation and resolution of survey-related NCRs and technical issues.
- Participate in coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders.
- Ensure surveying activities comply with approved project procedures, client requirements, specifications, and applicable standards.
- Maintain complete and traceable survey records for final handover and close-out.
- Provide technical support and guidance to Surveyors and junior survey personnel.
- Promote consistent survey methods, accurate field practices, and reliable dimensional control across project teams.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor 's degree in Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant surveying experience, preferably within airport, infrastructure, civil, roads, utilities, or major construction projects.
- Proven experience in engineering surveying, construction setting-out, and dimensional control.
- Previous airport or airfield project experience is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of control networks, coordinate systems, transformations, elevations, alignments, profiles, and construction tolerances.
- Practical experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, Engineering teams, Quality personnel, and project stakeholders.
- Professional Surveyor or Geomatics certification is preferred.
- Relevant land surveying or geomatics certification would be advantageous.
- Training in GNSS, GPS, Total Station operation, 3D Laser Scanning, or UAV surveying would add value.
- AutoCAD or Civil 3D certification is advantageous.
- BIM or digital surveying training is preferred.
- Strong mathematical and analytical capability for survey calculations and data verification.
- Excellent attention to detail and a disciplined approach to field accuracy.
- Ability to identify survey discrepancies early and provide practical technical solutions.
- Good communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong documentation and reporting practices.
- Ability to meet demanding construction schedules without compromising survey accuracy.
- Willingness to mentor junior survey staff and promote consistent technical standards.
